Inverter spot welders for auto body repair: the GYSPOT PTI range compared
High-strength steels need an inverter resistance spot welder with controlled current, real clamping force and a weld log. The five GYSPOT PTI machines sold in the US, compared.

Modern bodies are built from high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels that a transformer spot welder cannot join properly. An inverter resistance spot welder delivers a controlled, high current for a short, precise time with a clamping force of several hundred daN, and most of them log every weld. That is why the manufacturer repair programs name specific machines. This guide compares the GYSPOT PTI range sold in the US, what each one adds, and how to choose between them.
What an inverter spot welder has to do
Three numbers matter. Welding current, 13,000 to 14,500 A on the PTI range, is what fuses boron and UHSS steels. Clamping force, 550 to 600 daN, keeps the sheets in contact so the current goes through the nugget rather than around it. Spots per minute tells you how the machine copes with a long seam. Beyond the numbers, the programs look at how the arms are changed, whether the machine sets its parameters automatically from the sheet it measures, and whether it stores a weld report. The OEM approvals page lists which GYS machine each US program names.

All PTI machines are three-phase, 200 to 240 V, liquid-cooled, and supplied in their US configuration with the 2-year GYS warranty. The breaker and air requirements are on each product page's datasheet.
Choosing between them
- Independent shop, first inverter welder: the PTI NEO. It is the machine in stock.
- Certified shop welding daily on several makes: the PTI EXPERT, for the boom and the transformer, or the GENIUS PLUS for the rate and the 600 daN clamp.
- Joints with poor access: the PTI MASTER's over-opening arm or the GENIUS PLUS pneumatic version.
- BMW programme: the C7502655 only.
Arms and consumables
The machine is only half of the purchase. Arms decide which joints you reach: the arms guide sorts the C, G and X arms by reach, and the MASTER's G1, G2, G4 and G9 set is the one to copy if you buy them separately. Caps, electrodes and coolant are covered in the consumables guide. Budget a box of Type A caps and a coolant change with any new machine.
Used and open-box
Inspected machines come up in the used and open-box collection with the same support as new ones. Stock is irregular; the page takes a reservation if nothing is listed.
PTI machines are configured per shop (arms, cables, voltage) and quoted within a business day. Call (415) 419-5824 or use the quote form on the product page.
