GYS MIG welders in the USA: which one for your shop

Collision repair procedures on modern vehicles call for pulse MIG on three wires, and the manufacturer programs specify which welders qualify. This guide explains what the programs ask for, which GYS machine fits a given shop, and what to stock with it. GYS USA is the official source for GYS in the United States; every welder here is the US-voltage version with the 2-year GYS warranty.

What OEM programs require from a MIG welder

Three things come up in nearly every US program: pulse welding on aluminum, MIG brazing with silicon-bronze wire on high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels, and the ability to switch between steel, bronze and aluminum without re-spooling the machine. Pulse control keeps the heat low on thin aluminum and lets bronze flow at a temperature that does not damage the steel's heat-treated zone. A three-feeder welder keeps all three wires loaded with their own liners and contact tips, so the technician picks up the right torch and the synergic program is already set. GYS welders are built around exactly this: dedicated torches per wire, synergic curves for the common wire and gas combinations, and a digital PFC supply that delivers pulse quality on a single-phase outlet.

The GYS MIG welders sold in the USA

P3 GYS AUTO: three torches on single-phase power

The P3 GYS AUTO is the welder for most independent collision shops: 220 A of pulse output on single-phase 208 to 240 V, three integrated wire feeders with three torches, so steel, CuSi3 and aluminum are always loaded, and synergic programs that make the first aluminum weld of the day look like the last one. It is factory-approved by BMW, Tesla, Rivian and Volvo, and it meets the published equipment specification of the GM Collision Repair Network, Ford, Honda ProFirst, Kia and Subaru programs. 148 lb on its own cart; it is in stock in California and ships by Ground freight.

AUTOPULSE 320-T3: the three-phase station

The AUTOPULSE 320-T3 is the high-volume version: 320 A on three-phase 208 to 240 V with a 60 percent duty cycle at 260 A, three feeders and three torches, 68 synergic curves and double-pulse control for the cleanest aluminum beads. It is approved by BMW and Stellantis, meets the Mercedes-Benz, GM, Ford, Honda, Kia and Subaru specifications, and is the choice for a certified shop running several technicians on the same bay. NEOPULSE clearance units

We have a few new NEOPULSE 220 C single-phase pulse welders, compact at 22 x 11 x 16 in and 220 A, and NEOPULSE 300-T2 three-phase 270 A machines with two feeders, at clearance prices with full warranty. The 300-T2 ships without torches. They suit a second bay, a mechanical shop or a fabrication job where a three-torch collision station is more than you need.

Power supply: check before you order

Single-phase 208 to 240 V on a 50 A circuit runs the P3 GYS AUTO and the NEOPULSE 220 C. The AUTOPULSE 320-T3 and NEOPULSE 300-T2 need three-phase 208 to 240 V. If your shop has 480 V three-phase only, tell us; a step-down transformer is the usual answer and we size it for you. Every machine page lists the breaker size in its specifications.

What to stock with the welder

  • Wire: ER70S-6 steel, CuSi3 silicon-bronze for MIG brazing, AlSi5 or AlMg5 aluminum, in the D200 and D300 reel sizes the feeders take.
  • Liners: steel liners for steel wire, Teflon liners for aluminum and bronze, one per torch.
  • Contact tips by wire diameter, and drive rolls with the U-groove for aluminum.
  • Shielding gas: argon-CO2 mix for steel, pure argon for aluminum and bronze; the welders have the regulator connection built in.
  • An auto-darkening helmet and a protection cover for the glass and trim next to the weld.

Approvals and support

The full list of which GYS machines are approved or meet the specification of each manufacturer program is on the OEM approvals page. Every welder ships from California with a set-up call from a factory-trained technician, and parts and consumables are stocked for same-day dispatch.
