Collection: Contact Tips

Contact tips for GYS MIG torches — every diameter from 0.6 to 1.6 mm, in packs that keep your wire feed precise and your arc stable.

Contact tips for GYS MIG torches

The contact tip is the last part the wire touches before the arc. A worn or wrong-size tip gives an erratic arc, burn-back and porosity, so it is the first and cheapest thing to change on a MIG welder that has started welding badly. This collection holds the genuine GYS tips for the torches GYS sells in the USA: the 150 A (MB15), 250 A (MB25) and 350 A (MB36) torches and the 400 to 500 A torches, in wire diameters from 0.6 to 2.4 mm, M6 and M8 threads, sold in bags of 10.

Choosing the right contact tip

  • Match the tip to the wire diameter: 0.8 mm for most steel bodywork, 1.0 or 1.2 mm for thicker steel and flux-cored wire.
  • Aluminum wire needs the ALU tips, bored slightly larger so the soft wire feeds without seizing.
  • Check the thread (M6 or M8) and the torch rating printed on the tip holder. The MB15/MB25 box covers the two most common torches in one kit.

Tip holders, nozzles, liners and complete torches are in the torches and torch parts collection. Tips ship from California the same business day; orders under $25 go as small parts for $5.90. Not sure which tip your torch takes? Call (415) 419-5824 with the torch model.
